Transferring pets by plane is also a very good option, albeit expensive. Currently in India only Jet Airways has this facility to transfer dogs. This is a good option because the duration typically will be very less even if you are traveling throughout the country.

The current process of transferring pets by plane requires you to get a dog basket constructed which should be at least as big as the dog itself and should allow some moving space for the dog. The dog can be transferred to this basket at the airport once you have booked the tickets. However the dog once handed over to the airways staff will also needs to be given sleeping pills or injections to render unconscious to make it inactive during the duration of the flight. Typically these have very little side effect and your dog will be back to normal once he/she wakes up after the journey.

The only cons of transferring your dog on a plane are that it can be prohibitively expensive.
